You cannot get a real established scholarly answer ... so you get my cherished hypothesis instead:
METHUSELAH I believe is related to the name of the angel Metatron. Anyway, "Methu" seems borrowed from Greek "meta" meaning, well, meta ... and "selah" is an expression found in the Psalms. We do not know what it means but it seems to be an utterance to god, who is often called "Elah" (Moses called him that all the time, it's just like "Allah").
I think this is related to his age, just under 1,000 years old at his death, allegedly. But did you know the coolest thing was that he was Noah's grandfather?
Happy?
OH: "met" is "death" in Hebrew, so no, I do not believe for a second his name means death. Nice try, though. What are the two root meanings of the Hebrew name Methuselah?

The two root meanings of his name mean Death and Sent.
The first Prophet of note in the Bible is Enoch. He named
his Son Methuselah. Mut is the Hebrew word for death
and Shalach is the Hebrew word for sent. Prophetically
his name means it is sent when he dies. The year that
Methushelach died was the year the flood was sent.
