Are name meanings important?

We are having trouble finding baby names that meet all three of our qualifications:

a) That the name sound attractive and go with our surname,

b) That the name be shared by someone we admire (favorite philosopher, aunt/uncle, etc.),

and

c) That the name have a meaning we like.

Often, a name that we love the sound of, and which is shared by multiple people we admire, has a meaning we don't like. Specifically, it often originates in a religion of which we are not members. Is this important? If you had to eliminate one of our three requirements, which would you choose? Are name meanings important?
First important, that both parents love the first name

Second is that name sound good with the last name

your b could be the middle name, that could be the name that is shared by someone you admire

My daughter middle name is Elizabeth, after my mom

If he had a boy, his middle name would of been Allen, it was my husband and dated back to his great grandfather(I thought that was cool)

That the meaning you like, is not important

The only name my husband and I agree on when I was 8 months that went with our last name and Elizabeth were Hayley

It means hay clearing, not the best meaning

It was name we both loved and we used it because we both loved it

Plus, we did not have time to put in we need to love the meaning, that could of taken another 8 months

Some people have very hard last names

It's hard enough picking out names you both love that goes with the last name. Having a great meaning would be great, but it's not that important than loving the name

If you love one name and hate the meaning

Love the meaning and the name is okay

Go with love the name

As parents, we really need to love the first name
I personally think name meanings are important, but not as important as the other two. Unless names you like mean something really strange, go for it!Are name meanings important?
No, if I like a name I don't care about the meaning. Are name meanings important?
Some people care, others don't. Really I don't think it matters, I really don't see why the child would care? Haha but thats just my opinion. Also with naming my child I just use your "A". I don't find either of the other two important, Just one that Josh and I like and the flows well with our last name. I would get rid of your "C".
If we like a nam then we pick it, meaning doesn't matter much unless it means something bad.
well i would say some ppl wanna knw the meaning of their baby name n some dont ..
Not at all for me.

Think about kids who might tease based on names. But do kids seriously get on babynames.com and type in a classmate's name, find out the meaning and then make fun of the kid for it?

No, not really!
I wouldn't let the meaning of a name stop me unless the meaning was like:

Stupid

Retarded

Nerdy

You know what I mean something like that! :)
I would prioritize names in this order:

a) The name sounds attractive with your surname

- I mean, you wouldn't want your kid going about in a name which sounds weird with his surname would you? He'd be bullied and teased and hate you for burdening him with his name.

b) The name is shared by someone you admire

- That would really touch that persons heart, if it was a relative, or it shows your admiration for a famous person.

c) That the name has a meaning you like

- Who cares? I mean, not everyone walks around with a book of baby names in their hand, and when they come across a name they look the meaning up?
I think that certain meanings are important. I do not think that the actual name meaning is important, but I do think that family or close friend is important. It is a way of remembering if they are gone and also almost paying a tribute.

My brother in law was wounded in the battle of wynot in Afghanistan and 9 other soldiers were killed in the ambush. My brother in law named his son after one of these men in remembrance as well as a tribute to him.

I think that it is great when a name comes from the heart!
Weird as is sounds I'd say B.. in the case of a favorite philospher example... if you want to go with a "family name" though I think that's different. However, no one really looks at a name meaning wen they met someone. Have you ever gone home after meeting someone new and looked up their name meaning??? (When you aren't preggo lol) Also, look at it this way too... My name "Christie" means 'Believer in Christ' and I'm not religious in the least.
meanings are the last thing I'm concerned about. I'd like to avoid names that mean something like: evil ball of poo, but if it's just something that isn't the most amazing or inspiring, I don't really care. I care more about the "feel" of the name.
It's important becuz i heard once that whatever the meaning is that somehow is the personality of the kid or baby..
